The brief
A bespoke interior design project for a creative's narrowboat tiny bedroom designed to be a living work of art. Each room on the boat offers a unique experience, combining spiritual, alternative influences with positive-led design. The result is a flowing, immersive space that feels like walking through a curated art exhibition - ending in this room.
The solution
We approached the interior design of this small bedroom with a single colour concept, and the idea that it should feel like an art show rather than a classic narrow boat. This allowed it to feel calm and minimalist but with an alternative twist. We ensured it was still cosy by layering various textures such as woven curtains and tactile textiles. Materials were curated by layering different finishes for an aesthetic look - a glossy metal locker contrasts with the matt tiles. We specified patterns that reflect Yello's broad interests but that also suit a bedroom environment - spiritual eye motifs, retro wave lines and a stylish reference to graffiti art in the print on the custom blinds. The boat gets chilly, so we designed a tiled area with a log burner delivering heat and atmosphere.
